Who provides Buzzkill

Buzzkill is provided by Marcos Javier Klingler. Buzzkill is a free app with no account, no subscription, and no in-app purchases. Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of the app; where these terms and Apple’s agreement conflict, Apple’s agreement governs.

What Buzzkill does

Buzzkill guides you through a one-time local setup using Apple Shortcuts and the iPhone’s Accessibility Color Filters. It installs two bundled shortcuts and explains how to create the matching Personal Automations yourself.

Buzzkill does not block apps, impose time limits, monitor your usage, or inspect content. It cannot change your Color Filters setting directly. The automations run in Apple Shortcuts, under your control, and you can delete them at any time.

No guaranteed outcome, and not medical advice

Buzzkill is a general wellbeing and attention tool. It is not a medical device, and nothing in the app or on this site is medical, psychological, or clinical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Research referenced in the app describes findings from published studies about grayscale displays and reported smartphone use. Those findings describe study populations, not you, and results vary between individuals and between studies. No particular reduction in screen time, change in habits, or other outcome is promised. If you are concerned about compulsive technology use or your mental health, please speak with a qualified professional.

Your responsibilities

You choose which apps to include and you complete the automation setup yourself in Apple Shortcuts. You are responsible for those choices. Do not rely on Buzzkill in any situation where a grayscale display, or a display returning to color, could affect safety.

Dependence on Apple software

Buzzkill relies on features of iOS, Apple Shortcuts, and Accessibility Color Filters that Apple controls and may change or remove. Behavior can differ across iOS versions. One known iOS limitation is documented in the app: locking your iPhone while a selected app is in the foreground can run the close automation without running the open automation again on unlock.

Disclaimer of warranties

Buzzkill is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. It is not warranted that the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or that any automation will run correctly on every device or iOS version.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the provider of Buzzkill will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill, or missed communications, arising out of or relating to your use of or inability to use Buzzkill. Because Buzzkill is provided free of charge, total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to fifty United States dollars (US$50.00).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is the case, the exclusions and limitations above apply only to the extent permitted, and nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated. If anything material changes, the “Last updated” date above will change and the change will be noted in the next app release notes.
